Our History
Established in 1956, previously known as St Pats, we became the Ramsgate Rams in 1976 and have enjoyed sponsorship from the Ramsgate RSL Memorial Club for many years. In 2022 we fielded teams in Auskick (3-8 years program), U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, U14 and U15 age groups, including girls teams in U10, U12 and U14s.
Our club philosophy and culture is based on participation, development, fun and friendships. Ramsgate Rams prides itself on being a family club, and ensuring players of all experience and skill levels are given fantastic opportunities to develop their skills.
We have highly skilled coaches, most of whom have played AFL themselves and hold at least an AFL Level 1 Coaching Accreditation. Our volunteers are Working With Children Checked, and some are first aid trained who along with St John’s Ambulance ensure there is first aid coverage at all games. Together these skills and experience help us to ensure you enjoy your time at Ramsgate Rams AFL.
Club Awards
Presentation Day is held annually, view the Calendar for this year’s details.
At Presentation Day, Auskick players receive a participation trophy.
Each team awards 5 achievement trophies:
- Best & Fairest
- Runner Up Best and Fairest
- Most Improved / Most Consistent
- Best Team Player / Best Positional Player
- Coaches Award
As club policy, the Best and Fairest awards are determined based on the 3,2,1 voting system whereby Coach, Team Manager and a parent will be requested to vote on each game. At the end of the season the votes are opened and collated and the winners determined.
All other players that have attended at least 2/3rds of all games during the season are awarded a participation trophy recognising their efforts and commitment to the club.
The Club at it’s discretion, may recognise players and volunteers for milestones, and contributions via the following awards:
- Footballer of the Year – for Youth players who have played at least 3 seasons with the Club, are finishing their Junior career and have had an exceptional year as demonstrated via representative selection, Umpires awards or other external recognition
- Reuben Fraser – for the Best and Fairest player, as awarded by Umpires (not votes from their team)
- Lilian Hoskins Junior Club Person – for a player who has consistently volunteered their time to assist at the club during the season, and who contributes to a positive team environment
- Ken Hughes Rising Star – for a first year player aged 10 and up who has had an exceptional year
- Mal and Barbara Simpson – for a person who typically volunteers significant time across multiple positions to help in the running of the Club
- Exceptional Service – for a volunteer who has contributed significantly to the Club over multiple years often across a number of different volunteer roles
- President’s Award – for Youth players who have played at least 3 seasons with the Club and who will be finishing their junior career this season
