More Information…

Playing Junior AFL is all about fun, friends, skill development and teamwork.

Junior AFL is divided into development age groups which start with modified AFL and move towards full AFL rules.

Auskick   (4-8 years)

Auskick is a development program for boys and girls which focuses on skills development and fun followed up with some game play. Our Auskick program has approximately 80 participants across ages 4 to 8. The players are grouped into age and skill groups of about 10 players to complete skills and drills before commencing a game. The games are structured so that every player is on the field to ensure 100% participation, and has opportunities to develop skills across forward, back and centre positions. This is done in each game so that all players learn all positions, and ensure everyone has a chance to kick a goal!

Junior AFL is played on Sundays commencing with Auskick in the mornings, from 8am. Approximately half of our games at Tonbridge St Reserve, Ramsgate and other games are at Taren Point, Penshurst, Sutherland, Heathcote and Barden Ridge.

We train at our home ground – Tonbridge Street Reserve, Ramsgate. Auskick training is on Mondays from 4.30pm to 5.30pm.

Junior AFL  (9-12 years)

  • Under 10s is non-competitive football with a focus on skills, game development and fun. Players are rotated through forward, back and centre positions in every game, a grab and release rule replaces tackling.
  • Under 11s is played as competitive football with scores, ladders and finals. It is played on a modified but larger sized field, and while not compulsory  our coaches rotate players through forward, back and centre to ensure ongoing development in all positions, the game day rules gradually move away the modified format.
  • Under 12s is played as competitive football with scores, ladders and finals. It is played on a modified but larger sized field, and while not compulsory  our coaches rotate players through forward, back and centre to ensure ongoing development in all positions, the game day rules gradually move away the modified format.

Youth   (13-17 years)

Youth AFL includes Under 13s, 14s, 15s, 16s and 17s and is played on full size fields with full AFL rules.

Our coaches continue to focus on skills, game development, fun and friendships. Players start to settle more into preferred positions though development and rotation is still a key focus.

Training is once or twice a week with some pre-season sessions that usually commence early February.

Girls teams

Auskick is open to boys and girls, and teams are often mixed.

Ramsgate Rams was proud to field girls-only teams in the 2022 season in U10s, as well as in the competitive U12s and U14s age groups.  These age groups will persist into 2023 and we are also proud to field an U16’s girls team for the first time.

The number of girls teams may increase in future years, depending on registrations. Some of our girls train with or play games in boys teams for additional experience.  Sydney AFL Juniors allows girls to play in boys teams up to and including U13’s.
